Variegated Shingle

Microscopic photographs on acetate of wild flowers and insects found at Tide Mills, Newhaven, East Sussex.  This is an area of variegated shingle beach which is home to a diversity of rare plants and wildlife and a site of specific scientific interest.

Some of these plants, such as curled dock, to the naked eye look like dried grasses and yet, through a microscope new worlds of colour, character, form and complexity are revealed and a quality that is sometimes painterly.

Shown in Artwave, Lewes, 2021.
